CLEANING AND SANITIZING YOUR PHONES FROM CORONAVIRUS
Governments and medical officers have come up with precautionary measures for preventing one from contracting coronavirus. But how can we protect ourselves from our phones with the fear and worries that they may be carriers of the lethal virus? Some people wonder how phones can be carriers of coronavirus, and here is how. For instance, you are in a vehicle and you need to tie your shoelaces and you end up placing your phone on a surface which was probably infected with the virus or when you reaching for the taxi door which was touched by an infected person then you end up switching your phone between hands and though you clean them, your contaminated phone will contaminate them again. But here is how to clean your phone.
HOW TO CLEAN YOUR PHONE
Use isopropyl wipes with 70% alcohol content or Clorox disinfecting wipes – Apple advises the use of alcohol in wiping the phones as it is quick to evaporate and it also kills microbes or germs on the phone. They also advise against the use of Dettol wipes and any other disinfectant that needs to be left on the surface for a while for it to work because it disrupts the normal functioning of the phone.
Guidelines on how to clean your phone using alcohol
a) Power down the phone and remove any attachments
b) Make a 30% alcohol solution by mixing a double amount of distilled water of isopropyl alcohol in the spray bottle
c) Spray the solution on a cloth to make it dumb but not wet then wipe down the phone avoiding the openings and ports for iPhones and ipads wipe the screen, the back, and edges.
d) Use dry cotton swabs or blow air with your mouth to the lenses, ports, and openings to remove dust and other particles
e) Before plugging in any attachment, let the phone dry first.
2. Use Soap and Water
Despite your phone being water-resistant, you can’t wash it over running water but wash it with a dumb cloth dipped in foamy water, then wipe it over and over till no soap is seen. You can also use a paper towel. The guidelines used with the alcohol disinfectant are similar to using soap unlike that the former you use an alcohol solution while te latter you use a warm solution of soap and water.
3. Use of UV-C light Method
This method is being offered by Samsung for free in a few countries at the Samsung serve centers. This is applicable where you don’t need to use liquid on your phone. This light also kills bacteria.
WHAT NOT TO USE TO CLEAN YOUR PHONE
1. Compressed air its intensity can damage the ports
2. Spraying bleaches directly on the phone
3. Paper towels because they can scratch your phone’s service.
4. kitchen and window cleaners like Windex and Lysol respectively.
