The pang to eat something in-between is so irresistible at times. At times it’s so bad we go and grab a chocolate bar or a fast food snack. 

Well that’s great but obviously it’s not healthy. So why not dive into some types of healthy snacks that not only taste good but are healthy as well.

A nourishing mid-morning or mid-afternoon snack can be helpful if it’s healthy. A good healthy snack works like a mini-break for your mind and gives a sort of freshness as well.

All you have to do is freeze a few bananas and then cut them into small chunks ½ or ÂĽ will do fine. Pop them in the food processor and there you go! Creamy, tasty and healthy snack ready in minutes. 

Beans 

Beans, yes you read right are a hugely underrated food. Considering they are delicious and healthy. Seriously, eating beans can have a great impact on your health. Matter of fact, some even have 2-3 servings a day. 

On the health front, they act as probiotics giving you a good intestinal flora to thrive with. Packed with dietary fiber and they regulate blood sugar levels for the next 1-2 future meals. They have tons of antioxidants and an amazing amount of proteins, potassium and magnesium.

There might be very few people who can say no to berries. Not only are they delicious but actually second to greens. 

Popcorn 

Contrary to what you are thinking, it’s time to hit the couch for the next movie, no. Popcorn is actually a healthy snack. And, if you can opt for air-popped popcorn minus the butter and pinch of salt is your bowl of healthy snacks. And you can make it at home and with no fuss. 

Dark Chocolate is also a type of healthy snacks 

As tasty as dark chocolate is, it’s packed with nutrients. And nutrients are important for our body. It also happens to be the best source of antioxidants you’ll ever know about. Studies show it helps improve your health and also lowers your risk for heart disease. 

Here are some types of healthy snacks you can make by yourself

Granola Bars 

 Oats offer an amazing amount of fiber and iron. The nuts and seeds on the other side add heart healthy unsaturated fats. But (if you are buying from the market) read the label as they can be high in calories. So, why not make your own.

The Ingredients you’ll need are:

  • ½ cup of butter
  • ½ cup of honey
  • 1 cup of brown sugar 
  • 2 ½ cups of oats, large flakes are preferred 
  • 2 ½ cup rice krispies 
  • 1 cup coconut 
  • 3 cups mixed dried fruits, nuts, raisins, seeds

How to make well, 

Combine the butter, honey and brown sugar in a large pot and place over medium heat and bring to boil. 

As it begins to bubble, add in the remaining ingredients, stirring constantly. Cook for 8-10 minutes or till brown. 

Firmly press the batter into a pan lined with parchment paper. Let it cool and cut into desired shape. Of course, bars are the most convenient shape. And if you want to store, you can wrap each single one in parchment paper and store in a jar. Eat when you want!

Peanut Butter Popcorn Bars

This is another yummy and tasty bar you can easily make. It’s definitely going to be a snack your kids will never say no to. The texture is a bit chewy and as with the above one, tasty and healthy. 

What do you need, well:

  • 10 cups of popped popcorn 
  • ½ cup sugar 
  • ½ cup light corn syrup 
  • ½ cup creamy peanut butter 
  • ½ cup vanilla extract 

Place the popcorn in a large bowl and keep it aside. Take a saucepan and place over medium heat. Add sugar and corn syrup and bring to a boil for a minute. Sirring constantly and then remove from heat. Stir in the butter and vanilla extract and mix it well. Pour the mixture over the popcorn and stir until it’s coated all over. Again, press into a buttered pan, cool and cut. 

Fruit and Cheese Kabobs

It’s is an awesome fresh, fruity, and yummy snack ideal for summers. You can make it in a few minutes and take it anywhere, ballpark, playground, beach, office, practically anywhere. And, remember a dip like cinnamon spiced yogurt dip, will do wonders. 

You will need for the dip:

  • A cup of vanilla yogurt 
  • ½ cup sour cream 
  • 2 tablespoons honey
  • ½ teaspoon ground cinnamon 

For the stick:

  • 2 cups fresh halved strawberries 
  • 1-½ cup green grapes 
  • 8 ounces of cheddar cheese cubes (you can Use Monterey Jack cheese as well or both) 

The steps are easy:

Cut the fruits and cheese into small cubes and keep aside. 

For the dip mix the four ingredients and transfer into small bowls or an airtight container if you intend to take alone. 

Next take some wood or plastic skewers and thread a fruit and cheese cubes e once. You can use any fruit you like. You can serve immediately or refrigerate and eat later.
