Why Is Nutrition Important And What You Should know About It

That practically sums up the whole scenario but if you are still wondering why is nutrition important? Then in this article we are going to explain in as simple English as possible.

The secret behind why it is so important for us is in the word itself — Nutrition. And nutrition comes from the nutrients. We can get ample nutrients from the food we eat. These nutrients help in nourishing our body giving us a healthy body.

In scientific language, nutrients get supplied to the body via the foods we eat. We need the nutrients to feed our cells so we can stay alive. Though we can also get nutrients from vitamin supplements, here we are talking about natural nutrients that we can get only from food and why is nutrition important for humans or any living being.

Why are nutrients important for any living being?

Now it’s clear where we get out nutrients so let’s get a better knowledge of what it is and why it is important. If our body does not get ample nutritions, we will grow weak and get sick and it can also cost us our life. We will miss our development milestones and our body will not be able to deal with the daily mental tasks.  Let alone any physical task that we need to do in our daily routine. Our reproduction ability will also get affected tremendously.

What are they that make nutrients important?

Nutrients are our fuel, that should be enough for you to understand why is nutrition important but we will give you a better insight. It helps our body to work by breaking down food. Then they help in repairing our body like cells and tissues. In short, nutrients help maintain our metabolism. .

A healthy body needs many types of nutrients to survive. They include carbohydrates, fiber, water, proteins, fats and vitamins. If you are thinking about micronutrients and macronutrients, micronutrients (vitamins and minerals) are those that we don’t need a lot of. But we need tons of macronutrients.

Some of the nutrients fuel our body while others take over other vital tasks like hydrating our body and help in digesting our food.

So are micronutrients not important?

As we said above, they are important but very little. Vitamins are micronutrients and the most common one on that. The body needs vitamins as they are the most essential organic compound the body needs to function with. Overall, there are 13 different vitamins that we need in our life. These include vitamin A, D, E, C,  and eight different types of vitamin B.

The other important micronutrients are minerals. Though we do not need them in large amounts, they are important. There is a wide range of minerals we keep getting throughout the day from the food we eat, but still most of us lack most of the minerals as it is difficult for some to get all.

The minerals our body needs include potassium, zinc, magnesium, iron, chloride, sodium, calcium, copper, and many more. In total there are 16 different minerals we need to have a healthy body.

Having a nutritional imbalance let’s us know why is nutrition important for humans

Your body faces a nutritional imbalance when you do not get all of the required nutrients your body needs. You might have more of a particular nutrient but if you have less of a national. It can be fatal for you.

Your body needs all of the nutrients to keep your body strong, that’s why a balanced diet that’s nutritional, is vital for you.

Each nutrient has its own task in the body. And, if you lack any one of them, your body shows that as a deficiency in your body.

You must be knowing about the malnourished children in Africa and underdeveloped countries. That’s because they are lacking the villa nutrients in general. The children are completely deprived of food and water leading to loss of adequate nutrients required by the body resulting in malnourishment.

Why does your body become deficient in nutrients?

There are number of reasons for this like:

  • Not consuming the required amount
  • Your body is unable to process one or more of them
  • You have a disease
  • You are taking a medication that’s depleting them
  • Stress
  • Your digestive tract might have problems
  • You might be allergic or sensitive to a particular nutrient

If your lab test clarifies you have a nutritional imbalance or a deficiency, you need not worry. Once your nutritionist finds out which nutrient your body lacks, you can follow the remedy, but you have to do as told if you want a healthy body.

An easy way to improve your nutritional level

Obviously the best way to have a full nourished body is through the food you eat. The body deals better with natural food than supplements. Afterall the body is a natural machine and prefers natural substances.

But of course, if you are unable to eat a required diet, let’s say you cannot get that food or your body is unable to tolerate it, then yes supplements are the best alternative. And, in a way, you can replenish the lost nutrients.

Be attentive about your body and any changes you notice

As your body grows in age, your body undergoes many changes. To say we all need the same level of nutrients is wrong. Matter of fact, babies, children and adults, all need different nutrients and quantities. Again men need different amounts compared to women. And pregnant or menopausal women need more different then normal women.

If you are sensitive to a particular food, you tend to not eat it. But because of this, you can develop issues later in life. You will notice the changes. Age also causes back falls. You might have processed some foods better when you were young. But as you age, it might not be the same. This includes other sugars and carbohydrates.

You should pay attention to what your body needs and what you feel. If you feel tired as if you are lacking energy or have trouble in digesting your food,  these are early signs of an imbalanced diet.

Get a check-up

If you feel something is wrong with you,you should consult a doctor and get tests for  any nutritional imbalances. Most of the tests are done via blood samples. It’s a good decision to get a full body check-up as you gave as you could be lacking in some nutrients.

Eat a regular and balanced diet

On an average you need to consume around 2000 calories every day. That’s usually 3-6 meals a day. and eating a healthy diet does not mean eating the same kind of healthy food over and over again or trying not to skip meals. because you can always compensate for the lost diet later on and still maintain a balanced diet.

Nutrition important matters in the portion of foods

And whether you like it probably not, half of whatever you eat in the day should be fruits. And of all colors. Actually, the broader the range the more nutrients you get.  And again whether you like it or not, a quarter of your diet should include a mix of these: proteins from food like, chicken, meat, fish, diary and nuts, legumes and one quarter should include whole grain carbohydrates and starchy vegetables.

Try to eat little fats and sugars as the foods listed above have an ample supply of both. Avocados and olive oil have plenty of healthy fats while fruits and dairy products have ample quantities of sugar in them.

Look into supplements that can help you

For most, adding a daily supplement is a great idea to regain all the lost nutrients. After all, if you can’t get the required nutrients from natural sources, supplements are the best and easiest alternative.

Especially for some like pregnant women who need a high vitamin quantity. And those recovering from serious illness as well. But before you take any supplements, and are taking some medication. Then please consult a doctor as supplements tend to interfere with some medications.
